2009 Archive – New Vineyard Preparation

April 15th, 2009

A busy day ends with the new vineyard prepared for the planting now scheduled for 7th May. The field was ploughed before Christmas and had been planted with broad beans prior to the decision to extend this year so the ground was well prepared and the emerging bean shoots were ideal to plough back into the soil to provide a natural green feed. Preparation required a process of firstly deep ploughing the selected site, following which the well aerated soil was power harrowed down to a light ‘friable’ tilth, perfect for mechanised planting. The work is now complete, the soon to be new vineyard is looking superb and we await the 7th May with mounting excitement.
